Haiti earthquake reconnaissancePort au Prince, Haiti

Karl Telleen and Andreas Schellenberg studied the performance of reinforced concrete buildings in the 2010 Haiti Earthquake. Teaming with local professionals and researchers from the University of Arizona and the University of Sherbrooke, they recorded damage that the earthquake inflicted on engineered structures from one to eight stories tall. The observed damage was then compared to predictions from computer simulations in order to calibrate and improve seismic analysis techniques. The National Science Foundation funded the research.
