Tall Building Peer ReviewProjects and clients throughout North America
Joe Maffei has led the seismic peer review of more than forty high-rise buildings. In many of these structures, the seismic-force resisting system consists of reinforced concrete walls and the building height exceeds the prescriptive limit of the building code for this type of system. Acceptability is demonstrated using nonlinear response history analysis and capacity design, based on the alternate design provisions of the building code and policies such as San Francisco’s administrative bulletin AB‑083. Joe chaired the development task group for AB-083 and has worked with numerous cities and jurisdictions to develop seismic peer review procedures and perform reviews. Maffei Structural Engineering has performed seismic peer reviews of tall buildings ranging from office and residential to air traffic control towers.
